Intercom Pricing 2026: Plans, Fin Costs & Real Examples

Intercom pricing is one of the most searched topics in customer support software, and the sticker price only tells part of the story. Your bill is made of seats, Fin AI Agent usage, optional add-ons and usage-based messaging fees. This guide breaks down each part using Intercom's own published pricing, shows what real monthly bills can look like, and compares alternatives.

Prices below were checked on intercom.com/pricing, fin.ai/pricing and Intercom's help center in October 2026. Intercom changes pricing regularly, so confirm on their site before you buy.

What Does Intercom Cost in 2026?

Intercom charges per seat (teammate) on one of three plans, plus usage-based fees. Fin AI Agent is included on every plan and billed at $0.99 per outcome.

PlanPer seat, billed annuallyPer seat, billed monthlyFin AI Agent
Essential$29/mo$39/mo$0.99 per outcome
Advanced$85/mo$99/mo$0.99 per outcome
Expert$132/mo$139/mo$0.99 per outcome

So the short answer to "how much does Intercom cost?" is: $29 to $139 per seat per month, plus $0.99 for each conversation Fin successfully handles, plus any add-ons and messaging usage. A one-person team can start under $100 a month. A team of ten with a busy Fin can pass $2,500.

Intercom Pricing Plans Explained

All plans include the Intercom helpdesk and Fin AI Agent. What differs is the feature set and the seat price.

Essential - $29/seat/mo (annual) or $39 (monthly). For individuals, startups and small businesses. Includes Messenger live chat, a shared inbox and ticketing system, pre-built reports, a public help center and basic automation.

Advanced - $85/seat/mo (annual) or $99 (monthly). For growing support teams. Adds a workflow automation builder, multiple team inboxes, round-robin assignment and a private and multilingual help center, and includes 20 free Lite seats.

Expert - $132/seat/mo (annual) or $139 (monthly). For larger teams. Adds SSO and identity management, HIPAA support, service level agreements (SLAs) and multibrand Messenger and help center, and includes 50 free Lite seats.

Two details that matter for budgeting:

  • Full seats vs Lite seats. Full seats are the paid ones, for teammates who talk to customers. Lite seats are free on Advanced and Expert and give limited access for internal collaboration, so managers and colleagues who only need to view or comment do not need a full seat.
  • Monthly vs annual. Annual billing saves roughly $10 to $14 per seat per month on Essential and Advanced, and a smaller amount on Expert.

How Much Does Intercom Fin AI Agent Cost?

Fin AI Agent costs $0.99 per outcome. Older guides (including earlier versions of this one) call this "per resolution". Intercom now uses the term "outcome", which covers more than a plain resolution.

According to Intercom's pricing pages, you are charged at most once per conversation, and you are not charged when:

  • Fin cannot answer or fails to perform an action, or
  • the customer asks to speak to a human at any point, or
  • a conversation is simply passed to your team without an outcome.

If a conversation is reopened later, the outcome is refunded.

What counts as a billable outcome: a resolution (no further help requested after Fin's last answer), a Procedure handoff (Fin completes a workflow you configured and hands off to a human), a disqualification, or a self-serve routing. Per Fin's own pricing page, resolutions, procedure handoffs, disqualifications and self-serve routings are $0.99 each, while a qualification outcome is $9.99. You can set spending limits and alerts to keep usage predictable.

Fin with another helpdesk. You can use Fin on top of an existing helpdesk such as Salesforce or HubSpot without buying Intercom seats. That is also $0.99 per outcome with no seat costs, with a minimum monthly commitment (Fin's pricing page lists 50 outcomes per month).

Fin Voice pricing. Voice is sold through Intercom's sales team. Intercom's main pricing page lists $1.99 per voice outcome, while Fin's own pricing page says custom pricing, so ask sales for a quote.

Intercom Add-Ons and Usage Fees

Beyond seats and Fin, Intercom lists these optional or usage-based costs:

ItemPrice
Copilot (AI assistant for your agents)$29/agent/mo billed annually, or $35 monthly. Each agent gets 10 Copilot conversations and 10 AI auto-translation conversations free per month.
Pro add-on (advanced AI analytics, quality monitoring, Operator)From $100/workspace/mo. Extra Operator credits are $0.01 each.
Proactive Support Plus (product tours, surveys, in-app messages, push, series)From $99/workspace/mo, includes 500 messages. Additional messages are charged per unit.
WhatsAppCharged per conversation, varies by volume and direction.
SMSCharged per message, varies by region.
PhoneUsage-based, varies.
Email campaignsCharged per bulk email sent.

Inbound support, such as replying to customer emails, is included. Channel costs scale with how much you use them, so there is no fixed per-channel fee to budget for. Estimate your own message volume before you commit.

Is There a Free Intercom Plan or Startup Discount?

There is no permanent free plan. Intercom offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, which includes all features, Fin and add-ons.

Startups have a real discount option: Intercom's Early Stage program advertises 93% off for companies that have raised under $10M and have 15 employees or fewer. If you qualify, apply before paying list price, since it changes the math completely.

What Intercom Really Costs: 3 Examples

These examples use list prices with annual billing and ignore optional add-ons and messaging fees, so treat them as a floor.

ScenarioSeatsFin outcomes per monthMonthly estimate
Solo founder1 Essential seat: $29150 outcomes: $148.50about $178
Small team3 Advanced seats: $255600 outcomes: $594about $849
Growing team10 Advanced seats: $8502,000 outcomes: $1,980about $2,830

Fin is the variable part. At $0.99 per outcome, 1,000 outcomes a month is $990 on its own, so a busy month or a product launch moves the bill without any change in headcount. The upside is that Fin spend rises only when Fin actually handles conversations. Add Copilot at $29 per agent and the three-seat team above rises by about $87.

Why Intercom Bills Add Up

If you compare Intercom with simpler helpdesk tools, the bill can look high. The usual reasons:

  1. Per-seat pricing scales with your team. Every teammate who needs to reply to customers is a full seat. Ten Advanced seats is $850 a month before any AI usage.
  2. Fin is usage-based. It is only as predictable as your conversation volume.
  3. Add-ons are separate. Copilot, Pro and Proactive Support Plus each add a fixed monthly amount.
  4. Messaging channels are metered. WhatsApp, SMS and phone are billed per use rather than included.
  5. Plan features gate automation. The workflow builder, multiple inboxes and round-robin routing start on Advanced, which more than doubles the seat price versus Essential.

None of this makes Intercom a bad deal. If you need a full helpdesk with an AI agent built in, you are paying for the whole platform. The point is to model your volume before you sign.

Intercom Fin vs Hiring Another Support Agent

A fair way to compare Fin with another hire is cost per conversation:

  • Human: loaded hourly cost of the agent divided by conversations handled per hour. For illustration, an agent costing $25 an hour in total who handles 5 conversations an hour costs $5 per conversation.
  • Fin: $0.99 per outcome, plus the share of conversations Fin cannot resolve, which still go to a human.

The second part is where the real answer lives. Your savings depend on the resolution rate Fin reaches on your content and your questions, which varies a lot by business. Pilot it for a month, look at outcomes against total conversation volume, and compare against your real loaded cost per human-handled conversation. Do not rely on resolution rates quoted in case studies from other companies.

Intercom Alternatives and What They Cost

Which alternative makes sense depends on what you are replacing: a full helpdesk, an AI agent, or both.

Intercom$29 to $132 per seat/mo (annual) + $0.99 per Fin outcomeA full helpdesk with an AI agent included
Zendesk Suite Team$55 per agent/mo annual ($69 monthly). AI agents are billed per automated resolution: $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, with a small allowance included per agentTicketing-first teams that want AI on top
Fin on your existing helpdesk$0.99 per outcome, no seat costs, minimum monthly commitmentTeams already on Salesforce, HubSpot or another helpdesk who only want the AI agent
FlowGentFlat monthly plans by message credits: Hobby $49 (2,000 credits), Standard $99 (4,000), Pro $199 (8,000); Starter $19 for flows and automations only. A note on FlowGent. FlowGent is not a full helpdesk replacement. It does not replace ticketing, SLAs or a help center. It is an AI agent for customer conversations, built mainly around Instagram DMs (with WhatsApp and Slack also available), and it is priced by message credits rather than seats or outcomes: one message sent to an agent is one credit. Hobby includes 1 team member, Standard includes 3, and Pro includes 5, and custom tools start on the Standard plan. If most of your customer conversations happen in Instagram DMs and the job is lead qualification and booking rather than ticket handling, it is usually the more direct fit. See the FlowGent pricing page for current plans, the Intercom alternative comparison, and the AI agent for Instagram to see what it does.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Intercom pricing per month?

Intercom's seat prices are $29 (Essential), $85 (Advanced) and $132 (Expert) per seat per month when billed annually, or $39, $99 and $139 billed monthly. Fin AI Agent is billed separately at $0.99 per outcome, so your total depends on both team size and conversation volume.

Does Intercom have a free plan?

No permanent free plan. Intercom offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Eligible startups (under $10M raised and 15 employees or fewer) can apply for the Early Stage program, which advertises 93% off.

How much does Intercom Fin cost?

$0.99 per outcome. An outcome is a billable result such as a resolution, a Procedure handoff, a disqualification or a self-serve routing, and you are charged at most once per conversation. You are not charged if Fin cannot answer or the customer asks for a human. Qualification outcomes are priced at $9.99 each according to Fin's pricing page.

What does Fin Voice cost?

Fin Voice is sold through Intercom's sales team. Intercom's main pricing page lists $1.99 per voice outcome, while Fin's pricing page describes custom pricing, so get a quote for your volume.

Can I use Fin without Intercom's helpdesk?

Yes. Fin works with other helpdesks such as Salesforce and HubSpot. It is billed at $0.99 per outcome with no seat costs and a minimum monthly commitment.

Is Intercom worth the price for small businesses?

For small teams that need a helpdesk, a shared inbox and an AI agent in one product, the Essential plan keeps the seat cost low. The variable part is Fin usage, so estimate your monthly conversation volume first. If your support is mostly Instagram or WhatsApp DMs rather than email tickets, compare it with tools built for that, as in the table above.

How does Intercom pricing compare to Zendesk?

Intercom's Essential plan is $29 per seat per month (annual) against Zendesk Suite Team at $55 per agent per month (annual). Both bill AI by outcome: Intercom charges $0.99 per Fin outcome, while Zendesk charges $1.50 (committed) or $2.00 (pay-as-you-go) per automated resolution, with a small allowance included per agent. The right choice depends on whether you want a conversational messenger first or a ticketing system first.

Which Intercom plan do I need?

Start on Essential if you have a small team and basic automation needs. Move to Advanced when you need the workflow builder, multiple inboxes, round-robin assignment or a multilingual help center. Expert is for SSO, HIPAA, SLAs and multibrand setups.
