The Bio, Name and Caption tags are our suggestion for which styles tend to stay readable there. They are not Instagram rules. Check the result on your phone before you save it.

How to use the Instagram fonts generator

  1. Step 1

    Type your text

Enter your name, bio or caption in the box. Every style below updates as you type.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a style

Narrow the list with the Bold, Cursive, Aesthetic and Decorative tabs. The Bio, Name and Caption tags show where a style tends to stay readable.

  3. Step 3

    Copy and paste

Tap Copy next to a style, then paste it into Instagram: Edit profile for your bio or name, or the caption box when you post.

Where do Instagram fonts work?

Fancy fonts work wherever Instagram accepts text you paste: your bio, the name field on your profile, captions and comments. Most other text fields take them too, although a field can drop characters it does not support.

They do not work in your username. Usernames are widely reported to be limited to letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so use the name field if you want a styled brand name on your profile.

Stories and Reels are different. Instagram has its own text styles there, and the Help Center describes how to switch them: in Stories you tap Add text and use the style button at the top, and in Reels you swipe left or right to change the font. Those are not Unicode tricks, they only apply to text on the video.

Are these real fonts, and will everyone see them?

No, they are Unicode characters, not fonts. Unicode includes sets of bold, italic, script and double-struck letters that were created for maths and symbols. Copying them works like copying any text, which is why you can paste them anywhere.

Because the viewer's phone draws them, they can look slightly different between iPhone and Android, and a few styles may show as empty boxes on older devices. The filled bubble and filled square styles may even turn into emoji. Check your result on your own phone, and if you can, on a second one.

Which style should you pick?

Fewer is better. One styled line in a bio looks deliberate, while three different styles look like noise. As a starting point:

  • Bold works for a single keyword or the first line of a caption, the way you would use a heading.
  • Script cursive and italic suit a name or a short tagline, where the letters are large enough to read.
  • Small caps and sans-serif are the most readable of the aesthetic styles, so they hold up in a longer bio line.
  • Old English, upside down and tiny text are hard to read at phone size. Keep them to one or two words.
  • Strikethrough and underline are made with combining marks, which can look uneven between devices, so they suit a caption better than a name.

Accessibility and search: what you give up

Screen readers are the main downside. A styled word is not the same text as the plain word, so a screen reader may read each letter by its Unicode name or skip it. Keep styled text to a few decorative words and put anything important in plain text.

Search is the other one. Plain letters and styled letters are different characters, so a search for "bakery" will not necessarily match a name written in script letters. Instagram does not document whether its search normalises styled text, so assume it does not: keep the keyword you want to be found for in plain text in your name field and style the rest.

How fancy fonts affect your character count

Many styled letters sit outside the basic character range and take more storage than a plain letter. Instagram does not explain how it counts them, so a styled bio can hit the limit sooner than it looks. Paste the result into our Instagram character counter and then confirm in the editor. Our Instagram bio generator can help you write the words before you style them.

Got people to your profile? Be ready to reply

A styled bio or caption gets attention, but replies are what turn it into customers. If your content says "comment GUIDE" or "message me", FlowGent can send the reply through the official Instagram API, using comment-to-DM flows and keyword replies. There is a 7-day free trial.

Instagram fonts: your questions answered

How do I get different fonts on Instagram?

Instagram does not let you pick a font for your bio or captions. Instead you paste text that is already styled: type your text above, copy the style you like and paste it into your bio, name, caption or comment. The styled letters are Unicode characters, which is why they travel with the text.

How do I put fancy fonts in my Instagram bio?

Copy a style above, open your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Bio, paste, and save. Instagram's Help Center says a bio can be up to 150 characters. Styled characters can take more room than plain letters, so check the result in the editor before you save.

Are these real fonts?

No. They are symbols from Unicode, most of them designed for maths notation, that happen to look like bold, script or old English letters. Whether they display depends on the fonts installed on the viewer's phone. Most recent phones show most styles, but some older devices show empty boxes.

Can I use fancy fonts in my Instagram username?

No. Usernames are widely reported to allow only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styled letters will be rejected. Fancy fonts work in text fields such as your bio, name, captions and comments. The name field is the place for a styled version of your brand.

Are fancy Instagram fonts bad for accessibility?

They can be. Many screen readers read each styled letter by its Unicode name, such as mathematical bold capital H, or skip it, so a styled sentence can be hard or impossible to follow. Use styled text for a few decorative words, and keep contact details, offers and calls to action in plain text.

Does Instagram have its own fonts for Stories and Reels?

Yes. In Stories, Instagram's Help Center says you can change the text style with the button at the top of the screen after tapping Add text. For Reels, the Help Center says you swipe left and right to change the text font. Those fonts apply to text on the video itself, not to your bio or caption.
