How Many Views Do You Need to Get Paid on Instagram Reels?
There is no view count that makes Instagram pay you. Instagram's Help Center does not publish a minimum number of views for a payout, and 1,000 views, 100,000 views or 1 million views do not trigger a payment on their own. What decides whether you earn is which monetization tool you qualify for, and those gates are mostly about followers, age, country and policy compliance.
The one place a view number does appear is the invite-only bonus program: for the Reels bonus, Instagram requires at least 5 million views over the previous 3 consecutive calendar months. Every other tool below has no view requirement at all.
Here is the whole picture in one table, based on Instagram's Help Center pages checked in October 2026:
| Tool | Followers needed | View requirement | Other requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gifts{:target="_blank"} | 500 | None | Professional account, 18+, supported country, payout account |
| Creator Marketplace{:target="_blank"} | 1,000 | None | Professional public account, 18+, agree to partner monetization policies |
| Affiliate partnerships{:target="_blank"} | More than 1,000 | None | Public professional account, 18+, supported market, rolling out gradually |
| Subscriptions{:target="_blank"} | 10,000 | None | Professional account, 18+, supported country |
| Live badges{:target="_blank"} | 10,000 | None | Professional account, 18+, earns on Live video only |
| Reels bonus{:target="_blank"} | Not stated | 5 million in the last 3 calendar months | Invite only, US, Japan or South Korea, 18+, professional account |

How Many Followers Do You Need for Each Instagram Payout Tool?
It depends on the tool. The lowest published minimum is 500 followers for Gifts, 1,000 for Creator Marketplace and affiliate partnerships, and 10,000 for Subscriptions and Live badges. The famous "10K followers" number is only true for two of them, which is why guides disagree with each other.
Every tool also needs the same base: a professional account (business or creator), a creator age of 18 or older, and compliance with Instagram's Partner Monetization Policies{:target="_blank"}, Content Monetization Policies{:target="_blank"} and Community Standards. Gifts and Subscriptions also list countries where they are available, and the Help Center says accounts focused primarily on children are not eligible for Gifts, Subscriptions or badges.
A few details that trip people up:
- Gifts pay $0.01 for every Star you receive. Collaborative posts do not earn Gifts.
- Subscriptions show up as "Set up subscriptions" in your Professional dashboard if you are eligible. Check the fee details on the Subscriptions help page before you price a tier, because the app stores charge fees on in-app purchases.
- Creator Marketplace is not a payout from Instagram. It connects you with brands, and the brand pays you. Our guide to Instagram Creator Marketplace requirements walks through joining.
- Affiliate partnerships let you add product links to Reels and posts and earn commissions. Products must pass Meta's catalog and integrity checks.
If you want the full breakdown of each tool and ways to earn without any Instagram payout, our longer guide on how to monetize Instagram Reels covers it. This page stays on the requirements.
What Are the View Requirements for the Instagram Reels Bonus?
The Reels bonus needs at least 5 million views in the previous 3 consecutive calendar months, and you cannot apply for it. It is an invite-only test that Instagram describes as available to select creators in the US, Japan and South Korea. You get an invitation in your Professional dashboard, and possibly a banner or an email.
Per the bonus program rules{:target="_blank"}, to be eligible for an invitation you must:
- Be at least 18.
- Be located and have tax status in the US, Japan or South Korea.
- Have a professional account.
- Follow the Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies.
- For the Reels bonus: have 5 million or more views in the previous 3 consecutive calendar months, and not be an aggregator account.
Instagram adds that not every eligible creator is selected. The separate bonus for photo and carousel posts has its own monthly view minimum by region (for example 5 million in the US), also measured over 3 consecutive months.
How the Reels bonus counts views also matters more than the headline number:
- Only logged-in viewers count, and only views from certain screens. Views from your profile do not count.
- Repeat views are excluded.
- Only original content earns. Branded content, boosted content and collaborative Reels are excluded.
- A reel can earn for up to 28 days after you share it, and your 150 most recent pieces of content are eligible in each 2-week period.
- Instagram may adjust the amount for your audience's age and country and for engagement.
Instagram shows an "Average RPM" (earnings per 1,000 qualified views) in your dashboard, but it publishes no standard rate, and its own help page lists the factors that move it: where people watch, how much they interact, how long they watch and what advertisers pay. Anything quoted as "Instagram pays $X per 1,000 views" is a creator report, not an Instagram rate.
How Do Gifts Work and What Do They Pay?
Gifts are the lowest-barrier way to earn directly from Reels. Viewers buy Stars and send gifts on your Reels, and Instagram pays you $0.01 for every Star you receive. With 500 followers, a professional account, a supported country and a payout account, you can qualify.
Because the rate is fixed, you can do the math yourself. As a hypothetical, not a forecast: if 100 viewers each sent 50 Stars on a Reel, that is 5,000 Stars, or $50. If nobody sends a gift, the Reel pays $0 no matter how many views it has. Instagram takes its share when the viewer buys Stars, so the $0.01 per Star you receive is what reaches you.
Two practical points. Gifts are turned on automatically for eligible creators, and you track earnings in the Professional dashboard under Gifts. Also, until you add a payout account you can see who sent gifts but cannot receive the money.
Do Brand Deals and Affiliate Links Need a View Count?
No. Instagram does not set a view minimum for brand partnerships. Creator Marketplace asks for 1,000 followers, and affiliate partnerships ask for more than 1,000 followers. Outside those programs, a brand can hire anyone it likes and tag the post with the paid partnership label.
This is where views start to matter, but through negotiation rather than a rule. Brands look at your recent Reel views, your audience location, how your viewers engage and whether your niche fits. Rates are set by you and the brand, so no source can honestly give you a "per view" price. If you want a rough sense of the range, our Instagram money calculator shows every assumption it uses, so you can change them.
Branded content is also excluded from the Reels bonus, so a Reel that does well because of a paid partnership will not earn bonus money. For the numbers behind sponsored posts, see how much Instagram pays for 1 million views.
How Much Is 1,000, 10K or 1 Million Views Worth?
On Instagram's own payout tools, 1,000 views are worth $0 on their own, and so are 10,000 or 1 million. Value comes from what viewers do: send Stars, subscribe, click an affiliate link, buy your product or message you. Any dollar figure for views alone is an assumption.
The table below shows how to think about it instead of quoting a made-up rate:
| Views | Direct Instagram payout | What can actually earn money |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | None | Gifts (if 500+ followers), a link or offer in the Reel |
| 10,000 | None | Same, plus a good case to apply to Creator Marketplace |
| 100,000 | None | Brand interest depends on audience fit, not the number |
| 5,000,000 in 3 months | Possible bonus invite (US, Japan, South Korea only) | Instagram picks cohorts, so it is not automatic |
Treat third-party claims with care. Some guides quote a flat price per 1,000 Reels views from an old Reels Play era or from unnamed sources. Instagram does not publish one today, and a single creator's payout is one account's result, not a rate you can plan around.
What Else Stops a Reel From Earning?
A Reel with plenty of views can still earn nothing if it breaks Instagram's content rules. The Content Monetization Policies{:target="_blank"} list formats that cannot be monetized, including static videos, slideshows of images, looping videos, text montages and static image polls. They also list unoriginal content, which means you can only monetize content you created or helped create, unless you add meaningful commentary or creative editing.
One line from those policies is worth reading closely. Content that incentivizes people to respond through likes or comments is classed as engagement bait and cannot be monetized, and the bonus program rules repeat that. So building a Reel around "comment below to win" prompts can put the Reel itself at risk. Read the policy before you write your call to action.
Other ways earnings stall:
- No payout account. Without one you can earn up to $500 per tool, with a $1,500 cap across 3 tools. After 5 months of onboarding, or once you hit the cap, you cannot earn more until the account is set up, and after 6 months you forfeit the earnings.
- Policy violations on your account. You can see them in your Professional dashboard and appeal them.
- An unsupported country or a children-focused account for the tools that exclude them.
How and When Does Instagram Pay You?
Instagram pays once a month, after your balance passes a minimum. Payouts for most tools are released around the 21st for the previous month's earnings, and bonuses around the 7th and 21st. In the US the minimum balance is $5. Outside the US it is $25 for most methods and $100 for wire transfer.
Per the payouts help page{:target="_blank"}, you will also need a payout account with your legal name, a payout method (bank, PayPal or debit card) and tax information. If you change your payout details, Instagram places a 5-day hold, so make changes at least 10 days before a payout date. Payments can take 1 to 7 business days to arrive, and international payouts up to 10 days.
Where Does FlowGent Fit?
FlowGent does not pay you, change your eligibility or track Instagram payouts. It helps with the part Instagram's tools skip: turning Reels views into something you can sell. If a Reel gets attention, the usual leak is that viewers watch and leave.
FlowGent is an Instagram DM automation tool. For creators, the most relevant piece is comment-to-DM: when someone comments a keyword on a Reel, FlowGent sends them a DM with your link, guide, product or booking page. That works for affiliate links, lead magnets and your own offers, and none of those need a follower minimum from Instagram. See the comment-to-DM workflow and our guide to Instagram DM automation for how it works.
What it does not do: it will not make a Reel eligible for a Meta tool, it does not publish or schedule Reels, and it does not promise any income. Keep your comment prompts useful and honest, in line with the engagement-bait rule above.
Plans start at $19/month for the Starter plan (flows and comment-to-DM, no AI replies), with AI plans from $49/month and a 7-day free trial. Current details are on the pricing page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many views on Instagram Reels to get paid?
There is no minimum. Instagram does not pay per view, and its Help Center lists no view threshold for Gifts, Subscriptions, badges or Creator Marketplace. The only published view number is for the invite-only Reels bonus: 5 million views in the previous 3 consecutive calendar months, for select creators in the US, Japan and South Korea.
How many followers do you need to get paid on Instagram Reels?
It depends on the tool. Gifts need 500 followers, Creator Marketplace 1,000, affiliate partnerships more than 1,000, and Subscriptions and Live badges 10,000. You also need a professional account and to be 18 or older. The Reels bonus lists no follower minimum, only the view requirement and an invitation.
Does Instagram pay for 1,000 views on a Reel?
No. 1,000 views do not create a payment on their own, and Instagram publishes no per-1,000-views rate. A Reel only earns if viewers send Gifts or you earn through another tool, such as a brand deal, affiliate sale or your own product.
Can you get paid on Instagram with 1,000 followers?
Yes, in some ways. At 1,000 followers you can qualify for Gifts (500 needed) and apply to Creator Marketplace, and for affiliate partnerships you need more than 1,000. Subscriptions and Live badges are out of reach until 10,000. You can also sell your own offer without any Instagram minimum.
Is the Instagram Reels bonus open to everyone?
No. It is invite-only and described as a limited-time test for select creators in the US, Japan and South Korea. You cannot apply. If you are invited, you will see it in your Professional dashboard under Bonuses, and your invitation can expire if you do not respond in time.
Do I need a payout account to earn on Instagram?
You can start earning on some tools without one, up to $500 per tool and $1,500 across 3 tools. To actually be paid, you must set one up within 6 months or you forfeit the earnings. It needs your legal details, a payout method and tax information.
Why do other guides say you need 10,000 followers and a set number of views?
Most are mixing up programs. 10,000 followers is the minimum for Subscriptions and Live badges, not for every tool. Claims about a set view count often come from older programs or from creator anecdotes, not from the current Help Center. Check the tool's own eligibility page in your Professional dashboard.
