How Much Does Instagram Pay for 1 Million Views?
Instagram does not pay a fixed amount for 1 million views. Its Help Center publishes no rate per view, and views alone do not trigger a payment. Direct payouts come from Gifts ($0.01 per Star), Subscriptions, Live badges and invite-only bonuses, so a million views can pay close to nothing or much more, depending on the tools you use and the offer behind the Reel.
This guide was checked against Instagram's Help Center{:target="_blank"} on October 11, 2026. Figures from Instagram come from that page and the pages linked below. Anything labelled an assumption is arithmetic for illustration, not data, so swap in your own numbers.

What Does Instagram Actually Pay Creators For?
Instagram's payouts page lists four tools that pay creators: Badges, Bonuses, Gifts and Subscriptions. None of them is a rate per view, and the page lists no ad revenue share for Reels.
| Tool | How you get paid | Who qualifies |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts{:target="_blank"} | $0.01 for every Star viewers send on your Reels | 500+ followers, 18+, professional account, payout account, one of the 49 listed countries |
| Subscriptions{:target="_blank"} | The monthly price you set. Instagram's revenue share is currently 0%, Apple and Google collect 30% | 10,000+ followers, 18+, professional account, listed country |
| Live badges{:target="_blank"} | Viewer badge purchases during Live videos, with the same 0% and 30% | 10,000+ followers, 18+, professional account |
| Bonuses{:target="_blank"} | Amounts are not published | Invitation only, professional account, eligible country |
So there is no per-view rate to look up. Money comes from viewers who send Stars or subscribe, from a bonus you are invited to, or from what you sell.
One rule matters if your million-view Reel was a paid partnership. Instagram's bonus program rules{:target="_blank"} say it only pays for public content posted from an individual profile, not branded content and not collab posts. Gifts also exclude collaborative posts.
How Much Money Is 1 Million Views on Instagram?
None of the numbers below is an Instagram rate. Each is a what-if with its assumptions shown, built from the one fixed rate Instagram publishes and a few labelled guesses.
Route 1: Bonuses, if you are invited
Instagram publishes no bonus amounts. The only payout figures with a name and a date on them that we found come from one creator who was in the program and posted her payouts on Medium in August 2024{:target="_blank"}: $0.40 for 22,000 views, $3.47 for 200,000 and $110.15 for 4 million. Per 1,000 views that is roughly $0.02 to $0.03.
- Assumption: you are invited to a bonus program and your Reel earns like hers.
- Result: 1 million views is about $17 to $28 (1,000 x $0.017 to $0.028).
It is one account, two years old, in a program Instagram says it may end. Do not plan a business around it.
Route 2: Gifts
Gifts pay Instagram's fixed $0.01 per Star, so the result depends on how many viewers send gifts and how many Stars each one sends. Instagram publishes neither number, so both are assumptions here (20 Stars per sender):
| Assumed share of viewers who send a gift | Senders out of 1 million | Stars at 20 each | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.01% (1 in 10,000) | 100 | 2,000 | $20 |
| 0.05% (1 in 2,000) | 500 | 10,000 | $100 |
| 0.1% (1 in 1,000) | 1,000 | 20,000 | $200 |
Views are not unique people, so treat these percentages as placeholders. Check your own Gifts section in the Professional dashboard after a few Reels and replace them.
Route 3: Subscriptions
Subscriptions need 10,000 followers and bring monthly recurring revenue rather than a one-off payment.
- Assumptions: 200 of your 1 million viewers subscribe (0.02%), at $5 a month.
- Result: 200 x $5 = $1,000 a month before fees. Instagram's revenue share is currently 0%, but Apple and Google collect 30% on in-app purchases, so about $700 a month after app store fees, for as long as people stay subscribed.
Route 4: Brand deals
Brands do not pay per view the way a platform would, but many price by reach. Stan's influencer rates guide{:target="_blank"} gives the formula (average impressions divided by 1,000, times CPM) and says typical influencer CPM is $10 to $30 for broad lifestyle niches and $30 to $80 for high-value niches such as finance, tech or B2B.
- Assumption: your average post reaches 1 million impressions, and a brand accepts those CPMs.
- Result: 1,000 x $10 to $30 = $10,000 to $30,000 in a broad niche, and $30,000 to $80,000 in a high-value niche.
That is an asking-price guide from a third party, not a promise from any brand, and it needs a brand that wants to work with you. Our Instagram money calculator lets you test the same formula with your own average views and CPM.
Route 5: Your own products and services
A million views can start private conversations. People comment a keyword, you send them an offer by DM, and some of them buy.
- Assumptions: 0.2% of views turn into a keyword comment (2,000 DMs sent), 1% to 5% of those people buy a $30 product.
- Result: 20 to 100 sales, or $600 to $3,000.
All five routes side by side
| Route | Assumption | Result for 1 million views | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bonus | Earns like one reported creator, $0.017 to $0.028 per 1,000 views | About $17 to $28 | An Instagram invitation |
| Gifts | 100 to 1,000 senders at 20 Stars each | $20 to $200 | 500 followers |
| Subscriptions | 200 subscribers at $5 a month | About $700 a month after app store fees | 10,000 followers |
| Brand deal | $10 to $30 CPM, 1 million impressions | $10,000 to $30,000 asked | A brand that says yes |
| Own offer | 2,000 DMs, 1% to 5% buy a $30 item | $600 to $3,000 | An offer and a DM flow |
With these assumptions, Instagram's own payouts are the smallest line. That could change with different guesses, but one thing does not: the platform payout is capped by how many viewers choose to send Stars, subscribe or get invited, while a brand deal or your own offer is limited by what you can sell.
Does Instagram Pay More Than YouTube Shorts or TikTok?
We scraped each platform's official creator pages on October 11, 2026. None of the three publishes a flat rate per million views, so what you can compare is how the money works and how high the entry bar is.
| Platform | How the money works | Entry bar |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts at $0.01 per Star, Subscriptions, Live badges and invite-only bonuses. No Reels ad revenue share is listed | Gifts need 500 followers, Subscriptions and badges need 10,000 | |
| YouTube Shorts{:target="_blank"} | Ad revenue from the Shorts Feed goes into a Creator Pool, and creators keep 45% of their allocated share. No rate per view is published | The Partner Program{:target="_blank"} needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. YouTube's Shorts page also says earning a share of the Shorts ad pool needs at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, with February 1, 2027 given as the start date in its policy text |
| TikTok Creator Rewards{:target="_blank"} | Rewards are calculated per 1,000 qualified views (RPM). The Help Center does not publish an RPM | 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days, 18+, videos of at least one minute, personal account |
So the honest comparison is this: Instagram has the lowest entry bar for a direct payout (500 followers for Gifts) but no ad revenue pool tied to views. YouTube and TikTok do pay from a pool or an RPM, but only after a much higher entry bar, and neither publishes a rate per view. If you see a table that lists a fixed dollar amount per million for each platform, it is an estimate unless it names where the figure comes from.
Does Instagram Pay Differently in the US, UK or India?
Instagram publishes no rate by country, and the Gifts rate is $0.01 per Star everywhere. What changes is access and payout rules:
- Availability: Gifts and Subscriptions are listed for the same 49 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Bonuses are only tested in selected countries.
- Minimum payout: $5 in the US. Outside the US it is $25 for most payout methods and $100 for wire transfers, and smaller balances roll over to the next month.
- Brand deals: Stan's guide says brands typically pay more to reach audiences in higher-spending countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Western Europe.
How Many Followers Do You Need to Make $1,000 a Month on Instagram?
There is no follower count that guarantees it, because the amount depends on the route. The arithmetic for three of them:
- Gifts: $1,000 is 100,000 Stars at $0.01 each, and you need 500 followers to enable Gifts.
- Subscriptions: at $10 a month, $1,000 is 100 subscribers before app store fees, or about 143 to net $1,000 after Apple and Google collect 30%. You need 10,000 followers.
- Your own offer: at $50 a sale, $1,000 is 20 sales, with no follower minimum from Instagram.
For the full requirements per tool, read our guide on whether Instagram pays for Reels.
How Can You Turn 1 Million Views Into Money?
Views are attention. They become money when a viewer has an obvious next step.
- Pick one offer. A product, a service, a booking page, an affiliate link or a free guide that leads to one of those.
- Say it in the Reel. Tell viewers what to do ("comment GUIDE and I will send you the checklist") and what they will get.
- Reply by DM. Meta's private replies documentation{:target="_blank"} says an app can send one private reply to a comment, within 7 days of the comment. Follow-up messages are only allowed if the person replies, and within 24 hours of their reply.
- Check what worked. Compare comments, DMs and sales per Reel in Instagram Insights, and repeat the Reel format that sold.
If you want the replies sent for you, FlowGent connects through the official Instagram API and runs the comment-to-DM step. Plans start at $19 a month with a 7-day free trial, and you can start the trial here.
One caution if you also rely on Gifts or bonuses. Instagram's Content Monetization Policies{:target="_blank"} list engagement bait, meaning content that incentivizes people to respond through likes or comments, as content that cannot be monetized. The policy does not say whether a keyword prompt counts, so only ask for a comment when the viewer gets something real in return, and check Monetization status in your settings now and then.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Instagram pay for 1 million views?
Nothing fixed. Instagram publishes no rate per view. Direct earnings depend on Gifts ($0.01 per Star), Subscriptions, Live badges or an invite-only bonus. One creator in a bonus program reported about $110 for 4 million views in 2024, which works out to roughly $17 to $28 per million. Brand deals and your own offers are separate and much larger in the examples above.
How much does Instagram pay for 2 million or 5 million views?
The same logic applies: there is no rate. If you assume the bonus rate from the creator above holds, the result scales with views, so 2 million is about $35 to $55 and 5 million is about $87 to $138. Gifts, subscriptions and brand deals do not scale that neatly because they depend on viewer choices and negotiated fees.
Does Instagram pay you with fewer than 10,000 followers?
Yes, through Gifts at 500 followers (the full list is in our guide to how many views and followers you need to get paid on Instagram Reels). Creator Marketplace, where brands find creators, needs 1,000 followers. Subscriptions and Live badges need 10,000, and bonuses are by invitation. You also need a professional account, to be 18 or older and to live in an eligible country.
How do you get paid by Instagram?
Set up a payout account in the app. Gifts, Subscriptions and badges are paid around the 21st of the month for the previous month, and bonuses around the 7th and 21st. Without a payout account you can earn up to $500 per tool (maximum $1,500 across 3 tools) and forfeit it if no account is added within 6 months. The payouts page{:target="_blank"} has the details.
Why do other sites quote a fixed amount per million views?
Most are estimates. Instagram has not published a per-view rate, and many of the tables we found name no source for their dollar ranges, so we did not repeat them. The only payout figures here with a named source are Instagram's $0.01 per Star and the creator's Medium post.
Is there a tool to estimate what my Reels could earn?
Yes. The free Instagram money calculator estimates what a sponsored post could earn from your followers, engagement and niche, and turns your average views into a brand-deal estimate with a CPM you can change. It does not estimate what Instagram itself pays.
