Can WhatsApp Send Scheduled Messages?

Not in ordinary chats. WhatsApp's Help Center does not document a send-later option for personal chats, and the one place it does let you schedule a message is the WhatsApp Business app, through paid marketing messages and business broadcasts in limited countries. WhatsApp does schedule calls and events natively, but those are not messages.

Here is what WhatsApp's own help pages document, checked in October 2026:

FeatureWhereWhat it schedulesSends a message at a set time?
Scheduled callsWhatsAppA call invite, from the Calls tab with the + button, then Schedule callNo
EventsIndividual and group chatsAn event with a date and time. People who reply Going or Maybe get a notification when it beginsNo
Away messageWhatsApp Business appThe hours in which an automatic reply is activeNo, it only answers incoming messages
Greeting messageWhatsApp Business appNothing, it sends when a customer writes first or after 14 days of inactivityNo
Marketing messages / business broadcastsWhatsApp Business appA send date and time for a message to several contactsYes, but it is paid and limited to some countries

In February 2026, PCMag reported, citing WABetaInfo, that an iOS test build contained an inactive Scheduled Messages option. A beta feature is not a release, and we found no Help Center article for it, so do not plan around it.

Which Way to Schedule a WhatsApp Message Is Safest?

The safest options use WhatsApp's own features or links. The riskiest ones need broad phone permissions. Here is how the main methods compare:

MethodWorks onOfficial WhatsApp feature?Sends without a tap?Main catch
Business broadcast with ScheduleWhatsApp Business appYesYesPaid, limited countries, Meta review, opt-in rules
Reminder with a click-to-chat linkiPhone and AndroidIt uses WhatsApp's official link formatNo, you tap SendOne manual tap
Shortcuts automationiPhoneNo, it combines Apple Shortcuts with a WhatsApp actionYes, when configuredPhone must be on, can break after updates
Scheduler app using AccessibilityAndroidNoYesBroad permissions, account and privacy risk
Business Platform through a providerBusiness softwareYesYesTemplate rules and per-message fees

If you only need a nudge to message someone at 9:00, the reminder with a link is the lowest-risk method. If a message has to go out without you touching the phone, pick the Business app or the Business Platform.

How Do You Schedule a WhatsApp Message on iPhone?

WhatsApp has no scheduler on iPhone, but Apple's Shortcuts app can run a WhatsApp action at a set time. It is not an official WhatsApp feature, so test it before you rely on it. These steps combine Apple's Shortcuts guide with community write-ups, and menu names shift between iOS versions.

  1. Open Shortcuts and create a new shortcut.
  2. Add the WhatsApp Send Message action, which the WhatsApp app adds to Shortcuts. Pick the contact and type the message.
  3. Expand the action and switch off Show When Run, so it does not stop to ask. Community write-ups use this setting.
  4. Tap Edit, then Automation, and choose Time of Day. Set the time and a repeat of Daily, Weekly or Monthly, which are the options Apple documents.
  5. To let it run without asking, tap Edit, then the Info button, then Privacy, and turn on Allow Running When Locked. Apple says the automation then does not notify you. Without this, iOS shows a notification asking you to run it.
  6. After it runs, remove or disable the automation. Apple's Time of Day options are Daily, Weekly and Monthly, so it keeps repeating until you stop it.

Test first with a contact you have already chatted with. A forum thread from the Automators community describes the Send Message action failing for some contacts, and attachments can trigger a prompt to open WhatsApp. Apple also says automations are specific to one device, so plan for that phone being on and online at the send time.

A lower-risk version: create a calendar alert or reminder for the time you want, and put a click-to-chat link in it. WhatsApp's Help Center documents the format https://wa.me/<number>?text=<URL-encoded message>, which opens the chat with your text typed in. At the alert, open the link and tap Send. You can build the link with our free WhatsApp link generator.

How Do You Schedule a WhatsApp Message on Android or Samsung?

There is no built-in way to schedule a WhatsApp message on Android or Samsung phones. Scheduled send in Google Messages covers texts only, not WhatsApp. Your real options are the same as on iPhone: the click-to-chat reminder, the WhatsApp Business app, or a third-party scheduler app that comes with risks.

For Google Messages, you type the text, touch and hold Send and pick a time. That is an SMS and RCS feature in a different app.

The click-to-chat reminder works the same way as on iPhone. Set a calendar or reminder alert, put a wa.me link with your text in it, and tap Send when it fires. It needs no extra permissions and no third-party app.

Scheduler apps work differently. Android describes an accessibility service as an app that can "inspect screen content and interact with apps on the user's behalf". That is how a scheduler taps Send in WhatsApp for you. A YouTube walkthrough from April 2026 of one such app asks you to turn on its accessibility access, allow it to appear on top of other apps, turn off battery optimization, and give it your screen-lock PIN or password so it can unlock the phone. The section on risks below explains why that matters.

Can You Schedule a Message in the WhatsApp Business App?

Yes, in some countries. The WhatsApp Business app lets you send or schedule marketing messages, which are called business broadcasts in some countries. The feature is paid, WhatsApp says it is currently available in limited countries, and Meta reviews the messages before they go out.

Steps from WhatsApp's Help Center for a marketing message:

  1. Open the menu and choose Marketing messages. On WhatsApp Business web, go to Tools and then Business broadcasts.
  2. Start a new message, add media, text and an optional action button. Marketing messages need at least a photo.
  3. Select the audience, such as your contacts or broadcast lists.
  4. Review the price and audience, then tap Schedule instead of Send.
  5. Pick a date and tap OK, pick a time and tap OK, then tap Done.

Your phone must be connected to the internet at the send time. If it is not, the app tries again after one minute and then every 10 minutes, up to 10 times.

You pay only for messages delivered within five days of sending, and you need a payment method and funds in your account. The help page says you are charged when you send or schedule, and refunded for contacts it cannot deliver to. You also need the right to message each person. WhatsApp's spam rules ask for opt-in and for honoring opt-outs.

Away messages are a different thing. In Tools, then Away message, you can schedule when the automatic reply is active, either for a custom period or outside your business hours. It answers customers who write to you, so it does not send anything by itself.

How Do You Schedule WhatsApp Messages With the Business API?

With the WhatsApp Business Platform, your software or a provider decides when to call the send endpoint, so scheduling is usually a feature of the software around the API. Meta's reference also lists a Schedules API for scheduling marketing campaign deliveries. What you can send depends on whether the customer has written to you recently.

  • Inside a 24-hour window: after a customer messages you, you can reply with any message for 24 hours.
  • Outside the window: you can only send an approved template message, and only to people who opted in. A follow-up scheduled for more than 24 hours after the customer's last message needs a template.
  • Meta's Schedules API: the reference describes it as an API for scheduling marketing campaign deliveries for a WhatsApp Business Account. The example request in the reference names a template, an audience and a delivery time.
  • Provider add-ons: Twilio's WhatsApp pricing page lists message scheduling, together with link shortening and click tracking, as an add-on at $0.015 per message, with the first 1,000 free each month. It is listed separately from Twilio's $0.005 message fee and from Meta's own fee.

Each delivered message is also billed by Meta, by category and country. For the rates, see our WhatsApp Business API pricing breakdown, and for setup see the WhatsApp Business API guide.

Is It Safe to Use WhatsApp Scheduler Apps and Extensions?

Not without risks. WhatsApp says unauthorized automated or bulk messaging violates its Terms of Service, and it can ban accounts. Scheduler apps and browser extensions also need broad access to your phone or your chats, so they put your privacy at risk even if you never get banned.

  • Account bans. WhatsApp's Help Center says its products are not intended for bulk or automated messaging, and that it enforces this with technology and, in some cases, legal action. A banned number loses access to chat history and backups. Only WhatsApp can lift a ban, and third-party services cannot.
  • Unofficial WhatsApp versions. Apps such as GB WhatsApp are fake versions of WhatsApp. WhatsApp says they violate its terms, can carry malware and can lead to a ban.
  • Phone permissions. An Android accessibility service can inspect what is on your screen and act for you. That includes your other chats and apps while it is turned on.
  • Browser extensions. Google's Chrome Web Store help says a permission for "your data on a list of websites" lets an extension read, request or modify data on those pages. For an extension that works on WhatsApp Web, that includes your conversations. Google adds that a warning does not mean an extension is dangerous, only that it can be.
  • Hard to verify. You are judging an unknown developer yourself, and an update can change what the app does.

If you still use one, limit it to a number you can afford to lose, check what permissions it requests, and do not send bulk or unsolicited messages. A reminder with a click-to-chat link avoids most of this.

Where Does FlowGent Fit?

FlowGent is not a send-later tool for WhatsApp. It does not schedule a message to a contact at a time you pick. Its WhatsApp channel handles the other side: when customers message your WhatsApp Business number, an agent or flow can answer.

That makes it a fit if the real job is answering repetitive questions, not timing outbound messages. Plans start at $19/month for flows without AI, AI plans start at $49/month, and there is a 7-day free trial. See the WhatsApp channel, the pricing page and our WhatsApp chatbot guide. Meta's own message fees still apply to your WhatsApp account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you schedule a text on WhatsApp?

Not in a normal chat. WhatsApp's Help Center documents scheduling only for calls, events and, in the WhatsApp Business app, marketing messages or business broadcasts. For a normal chat, set a reminder with a click-to-chat link, or use an iPhone Shortcuts automation if you accept the risks.

Why can't I schedule send on WhatsApp?

The feature does not exist for personal chats. WhatsApp has not documented it, and the only scheduling in the app is paid and limited to the WhatsApp Business app. The Scheduled Messages option reported in an iOS beta in February 2026 was inactive and is not a released feature.

Can I schedule WhatsApp messages on my iPhone?

Yes, with a workaround. Create a Shortcuts automation with a Time of Day trigger and the WhatsApp Send Message action, then turn on Allow Running When Locked so it runs without asking. It is not an official WhatsApp feature, so test it with a contact first.

Can I send a WhatsApp message later without an app?

Yes. Set a calendar or reminder alert and put a wa.me link with your text in it. When the alert fires, tap the link and press Send. It needs one tap from you, but it uses no extra permissions and no third-party apps.

Can you schedule WhatsApp messages on WhatsApp Web or desktop?

WhatsApp does not document scheduling for personal chats on web or desktop. WhatsApp Business web has Business broadcasts under Tools, which you can send or schedule where the feature is available. Browser extensions that claim to do more require access to the data on that page.

Will WhatsApp ban me for scheduling messages?

A single reminder with a click-to-chat link is fine, since you send the message yourself. Automation tools are riskier. WhatsApp says unauthorized automated or bulk messaging violates its terms, and it can ban accounts, so avoid bulk or unsolicited sends.

How do I schedule WhatsApp messages for a business?

Use the WhatsApp Business app's marketing messages or business broadcasts if they are available in your country, or the WhatsApp Business Platform through a provider. Both need opt-in from your recipients. The Platform also needs approved templates for messages sent outside the 24-hour window.
