Limits to Know Before You Choose
Every Instagram DM tool is bound by Meta's API, but each vendor adds its own limits on top.
- LinkDM sends at a conservative pace. Its FAQ says it sets a DM send limit in line with Instagram's developer guidelines. On Pro, DMs over the limit are queued and sent at the start of the next hour. On the Free plan, sending resumes with new comments at the start of the next hour, so comments that arrive during a throttled hour may not get a DM. Platinum+ adds a DM overflow queue.
- LinkDM's monthly cap is hard. Free stops at 1,000 DMs a month and Pro at 25,000 a month. A post that goes viral can use up the Free allowance quickly.
- ManyChat's cost is the limit. Automations do not shut off past your contact count, but each extra active contact is billed. Overage rates range from $0.10 per contact on Essential (monthly billing) down to $0.004 on Advanced.
- ManyChat's free plan is small. 25 active contacts, 2 channels, 4 live triggers and Manychat branding on the first message to a contact.
- Neither tool is a CRM. Both keep contact lists and tags, but you will usually export to an email tool or CRM for follow-up beyond Instagram.
Is LinkDM Good?
For its job, yes. LinkDM does one thing, comment-to-DM link delivery, and it does it cheaply on the free plan and reliably on Pro. It says it has been a Meta Business Partner since 2021, and it connects through the official Instagram API without asking for your password. We could not verify the partner status independently, so check the permissions screen when you connect any tool.
LinkDM's weak spot is anything beyond the first message.
