Since their March 2026 pricing overhaul, ManyChat has kept adjusting the model, most recently folding AI into the Pro plan and above and adding a fifth "Advanced" tier. Is ManyChat Free?

Yes, but only for testing. ManyChat's Free plan costs $0 and covers up to 25 active contacts per month, 2 channels (Instagram, TikTok, Messenger or Telegram), 4 live automations and 1 user, with "Powered by Manychat" branding on messages. Before the March 2026 overhaul the free tier allowed 1,000 contacts, so it is now a sandbox rather than a plan you can run a business on. It still includes basic keyword triggers and comment-to-DM automation, but no AI, no WhatsApp and no SMS or Email. What is ManyChat?

ManyChat's pricing page describes it as a tool that helps creators and social-first businesses reply to comments and messages without living in the inbox. It says it is an official Meta Business Partner. The channels it lists are Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, email, and SMS, though which channels you can connect depends on the plan. On Instagram the common jobs are comment-to-DM, story replies, and keyword flows you build yourself. AI conversations are included on Pro, Business, and Advanced, not on Free or Essential.

What Is an Active Contact on ManyChat?

ManyChat's pricing page, checked October 15, 2026, defines an Active Contact as a real person you interact with during a monthly billing period, through messages or automations. One person counts once that month, no matter how many messages you exchange. A contact counts when messages are sent or received through ManyChat, including automations, AI, broadcasts, and the inbox.

That is the 2026 model. It is not "everyone who ever opted in." People you do not message that month are not described as counting toward the limit. The count still resets monthly even if you pay annually, and overage is billed monthly. Deleting a contact after you have already messaged them does not undo that month's interaction. ManyChat's pricing FAQ does not list deleting contacts as a way to lower the current bill.

If you go over the included contacts, automations keep running and ManyChat charges per extra contact. Annual overage rates on the pricing page are Essential $0.082, Pro $0.038, Business $0.018, and Advanced $0.0028. Monthly overage is $0.10, $0.05, $0.025, and $0.004.

How Much Is ManyChat Per Month?

It depends on the plan and on how you pay. Billed monthly, ManyChat costs $17 (Essential), $39 (Pro), $99 (Business) or $199 (Advanced) per month. Billed yearly, the same plans work out to $14, $29, $69 and $139 per month. The headline prices on ManyChat's site are the yearly rates.

Are There ManyChat Deals or Discounts?

The only discounts we could verify are the ones ManyChat publishes itself, checked in October 2026:

• Annual billing: paying yearly saves 18% on Essential, 25% on Pro, and 30% on Business and Advanced, based on the percentages on ManyChat's pricing page.
• 14-day free trial: Essential and Pro both include one.
• Lower overage rates on annual plans: for example $0.038 per extra contact on Pro billed yearly versus $0.05 billed monthly.

How ManyChat Pricing Works in 2026

On March 2, 2026, ManyChat rolled out a completely restructured pricing model, and has kept tweaking it since. The biggest changes:

• Five tiers, not two. ManyChat used to offer Free and Pro. The March overhaul added Essential and Business; a fifth tier, Advanced, has since been added for high-volume accounts.
• Contact-based billing. Your monthly cost scales with the number of active contacts in your account. Even if a contact has not messaged you in months, they still count toward your limit unless you manually remove them.
• Dramatic free plan reduction. The free plan dropped from 1,000 contacts to just 25. That is a 97.5% reduction, and it effectively makes the free tier a sandbox rather than a usable plan.
• AI now comes bundled into Pro and above. AI-powered conversations used to be a $29/month add-on on top of Pro or Business. On current plans, AI is included in Pro, Business, and Advanced at no extra charge. Only accounts still on ManyChat's older "legacy" Pro plan may still see a separate AI line item.

The contact-based model means your bill grows as your audience grows, even if engagement stays flat. This is still the single biggest complaint in ManyChat user communities.

Free Plan

The free plan now supports only 25 active contacts, 2 channels of your choice (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger, or Telegram), and up to 4 live automations. You get basic comment-to-DM automation, but that is about it, and messages carry a "Powered by Manychat" label. Before March 2026, the free plan supported 1,000 contacts, which was generous enough to run a small business on. That is no longer the case. The free plan is now only useful for testing the platform before you commit.

Essential Plan - $14/month billed yearly ($17 monthly)

The Essential plan bumps you to 250 contacts and keeps the same 2 channels. You get unlimited automations, lead capture, tags, and no ManyChat branding, but no AI and no WhatsApp, SMS, or Email. This tier works for solo creators with a small, engaged audience who only need simple comment-to-DM funnels.

Pro Plan - $29/month billed yearly ($39 monthly)

Pro is where most businesses land, and where ManyChat's AI now comes standard. You get 2,500 contacts, 3 channels (adding WhatsApp, SMS, or Email), AI-powered conversations, Broadcasts, and CRM and commerce integrations, all included in the base price. Earlier in 2026, AI was a $29/month add-on on top of Pro; it is now bundled in for current signups.

Business Plan - $69/month billed yearly ($99 monthly)

Business gives you 7,500 contacts, unlimited channels, AI-powered conversations, priority support, and a shared team Inbox with lead routing, all included in the base price. This is designed for agencies and larger brands running automation across multiple platforms.

Advanced Plan - $139/month billed yearly ($199 monthly)

Advanced is ManyChat's newest tier, built for teams and high-volume operators. You get 25,000 contacts, unlimited channels, AI-powered conversations, and by far the cheapest per-contact overage rate of any plan. If you are regularly paying Business-plan overage fees, Advanced is usually the cheaper option once you cross roughly 10,000 contacts.

How Many Contacts Will You Actually Need?

Since every ManyChat plan is priced by "Active Contacts," picking the right tier comes down to understanding what actually counts as one.

Use the definition above. An active contact is someone you interact with during that billing month, not your whole stored list. A lead magnet or a Reel can still push the count up fast, because every new person you message that month counts, and overage is billed even on an annual plan.

A rough way to size your tier:

• Under 250 contacts: Essential ($14/month billed yearly, $17 monthly) covers most solo creators and small accounts still building an audience.
• 250-2,500 contacts: Pro ($29/month billed yearly, $39 monthly) is where most active businesses land. It is the first tier that unlocks WhatsApp or SMS as a channel, and AI-powered conversations are included at this price.
• 2,500-7,500 contacts: Business ($69/month billed yearly, $99 monthly) makes sense once you need unlimited channels or team collaboration tools.
• 7,500-25,000 contacts: Advanced ($139/month billed yearly, $199 monthly) is usually the better deal. Business-plan overage runs roughly $0.018-$0.025 per extra contact, so once you are a few thousand contacts past 7,500, Advanced's flat rate and far lower per-contact overage tend to work out cheaper.
• Above 25,000 contacts: You are paying Advanced-plan overage, so it is worth comparing flat-rate or per-message alternatives that do not charge more as your list grows.

Two habits still matter. Check the active-contact count before a campaign, because a Reel or a comment-to-DM giveaway can add hundreds of people you interact with in a day. And set an overage cap if ManyChat offers one in billing, so a busy week cannot run the bill without a ceiling. Archiving quiet contacts does not, on ManyChat's current definition, remove interactions that already happened this month. Every plan includes comment-to-DM automation, keyword triggers, and a basic inbox. AI-powered conversations and Broadcasts require Pro or higher. WhatsApp is one of the most misunderstood parts of ManyChat pricing, because there are two costs stacked on top of each other.

1. The ManyChat plan. WhatsApp as a channel is only available on the Pro plan ($29/month billed yearly, $39 monthly) and above. The Free and Essential plans do not include WhatsApp at all.

2. Meta's per-conversation fees. On top of your ManyChat subscription, Meta charges a conversation-based fee that ManyChat passes straight through. These rates vary by country and message type:

A few things that keep WhatsApp costs lower than people expect:

• Every account includes 1,000 free service conversations per month.
• Conversations started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or the Instagram/Facebook WhatsApp button are free.

The plan prices above are just the starting point. Here is what can inflate your ManyChat bill:

AI: included on Pro and up (legacy accounts pay $29/month extra). ManyChat's AI-powered conversations used to cost $29/month as a separate add-on on top of Pro or Business. On current plans, AI is bundled into Pro, Business, and Advanced at no extra charge. If your account is still on ManyChat's older "legacy" Pro plan, check your billing settings, you may still see a separate $29/month AI line item until you move to a current plan. AI is decent for simple Q&A but limited compared to purpose-built AI agents.

WhatsApp conversation fees: $0.02-$0.08 per conversation. If you use ManyChat for WhatsApp, Meta charges a per-conversation fee that ManyChat passes through. Marketing conversations cost more than service conversations. At volume, this adds up fast.

SMS messaging: $0.01-$0.03 per message. SMS is not included in any plan's base price. You pay per message sent, and costs vary by country. A business sending 5,000 SMS messages per month could add $50-$150 to their bill.

Overage contacts: $0.0028-$0.10 per contact/month. If you exceed your plan's contact limit, ManyChat charges per extra contact instead of auto-upgrading you. Email overages: roughly $0.003 per message. Third-party cost breakdowns of ManyChat's 2026 pricing note a small per-message charge once you exceed your plan's email allowance. On its own this rarely moves the needle, but it is one more line item that is not in the sticker price.

What it adds up to. With AI now included on Pro and up, a single-channel setup on Instagram or Messenger alone can often stay close to the base plan price. Real-world spend climbs from there once WhatsApp, SMS, or contact overage enter the picture, sometimes several hundred dollars a month at real scale. 25,000 contacts: Staying on Business here means overage adds up fast, roughly $315/month on top of the $69 base (about $384/month total). The Advanced plan includes 25,000 contacts outright. $139/month billed yearly, flat, AI included, dramatically cheaper than staying on Business.

Paying monthly instead? The examples above use annual-billing rates. On monthly billing, 5,000 contacts is best served by Business at $99/month, and 10,000 contacts comes to roughly $162/month (Business $99 plus 2,500 extra contacts at $0.025).

The growth trap. The contact-based model still means success costs more.
